The HDMI Consortium (HDMI Licensing, LLC) today announced the latest release of the HDMI Specification--HDMI Version 1.4.

The HDMI Specification Ver. 1.4 continues to enable its Adopters to create innovative products that enhance the consumers HD experience. 

The HDMI Specification Ver. 1.4 supports some of the most exciting and powerful near-term innovations, including the following: 

l HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC)--Ethernet Connectivity 

Consolidates HD video, audio, and data in a single HDMI cable

Enables high speed bi-directional communication

Enables IP-based applications over HDMI

Transfer speeds up to 100Mbps

l Audio Return Channel (ARC) 

Upstream audio connections

Simplified audio connection between the TV and AVR

Eliminates the need for an additional optical audio cable

l 3D over HDMI 

3D support up to 1080p

l 4K x 2K Support 

Up to 4 times the resolution of 1080p
